Anwar may go free today
Kuala Lumpur: PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim will be released from the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital upon the finalisation of a full pardon granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, said the party's vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar.
"It is a wonderful day for us and we have always been fighting alongside our father to pursue reforms and justice.
It has never been about our father but doing it because it is right," she said when met at the hospital, where Anwar has been undergoing treatment following surgery. When asked whether Anwar should take over as Prime Minister, Izzah said she believed the country deserved the best Prime Minister.
"I will continue to ensure that the current Prime Minister (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) fulfils the promises for reforms he has made and we will ensure there are proper checks and balances."
Mahathir had previously said he would remain Prime Minister for two years before stepping down for Anwar to take over.
