Public urged to use VSP in reporting crimes

Tawau: Head of Tawau Police Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division, DSP Nasir Muslen (pic), urged the community to utilise the "Volunteer Smartphone Patrol" (VSP) to lodge any information related to crimes and drugs to the police any time.Nasir said this VSP app through smartphone allows the information to be transmitted to the police quickly and thus helping to prevent or eradicate crimes. It also promotes community harmony.

He said the public could lodge complaints or information that are equipped with video, pictures and GPS location through VSP in a very short time.

"Nowadays, everyone has a smartphone and hopefully they can use this app to reduce crime rate in Tawau," he said.

According to him, VSP is one of a new initiatives of PDRM to generate strategic collaboration and cooperation with the local community to prevent crimes. The communities are the eyes and ears of the police force.

In additional, the VSP also could provide civic education and awareness to the public in various aspects of security such as preventing and combating crime and to foster friendly relations between the police and the community, thereby raising public confidence in the police. - Christy Chok
